Arriving at Our Clinic
For those driving, on-street parking is available on the nearby streets around both of our clinics. The parking is metered and can occasionally be busy, but most visitors find a spot without much trouble. Both clinics are also well-served by bus routes, ensuring easy access via public transport.
When you arrive, there's no need to ring the doorbell. Simply come in and take a seat in our waiting room—located just inside the main entrance at East Crosscauseway and at the end of the hall at Sciennes. While you wait, please help yourself to tea, coffee, biscuits, or fruit. Hot drink supplies are on the counter, with milk stored in the fridge in the kitchenette. Water glasses are available in the cupboard above the sink. Your clinician will come to the waiting room to meet you at your scheduled appointment time.
Intervention
Our interventions primarily utilise cognitive behavioural techniques, but we also integrate methods from various therapeutic approaches such as Schema Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Compassion-Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, and Mindfulness practices. At the start of your therapy, you'll work with your therapist to set specific goals that will help track your progress throughout the treatment. For a deeper understanding of our methods, please visit the Psychological Therapies section of our website. We offer both long term and short term therapy. The length of short term therapy usually ranges from 6 to 20 sessions, depending on your personal history and the complexity of the issues you're facing. Typically, sessions are scheduled weekly or every two weeks to encourage early progress.
Assessment
The therapeutic process begins with an initial assessment, where we'll meet to explore the difficulties you're experiencing. You are welcome to bring someone along if you would find that helpful. This is a collaborative process, where we’ll ask about your personal history, as well as your past and current lifestyle, to develop a thorough understanding of your situation. Typically, this assessment takes 1-2 sessions, depending on the complexity of the issues being addressed.
Following the assessment, we work together to piece together all the information into a clear and meaningful framework. This stage, known as formulation, helps us define the problem, understand why it persists, and identify factors that might be maintaining it. During this process, we’ll also highlight your strengths, and the resources and support systems we will use to help manage your difficulties. Additionally, we will examine any potentially problematic circumstances or coping habits that could be hindering your progress. Once we’ve agreed on the formulation, your therapist will use it to guide the selection of the most appropriate treatment options. We will then discuss the treatment plan, and therapy can begin.
Ending
As you begin to see progress toward your goals or feel more equipped to manage your difficulties, your therapist will initiate the end of therapy. This phase involves reviewing the progress you've made and reinforcing the tools and techniques that have been most beneficial to you. Some clients find it helpful to continue with less frequent review sessions after the initial phase of therapy to maintain accountability and sustain their progress. You're always welcome to reach out for further support if needed.
